St. Croix, Virgin Islands Topo Contour Map Print

34.00

St Croix, Virgin Islands. Letterpress art print illustrated and printed in California by Nibby Press.

Part of a series exploring the places I'd like to visit, the Topo Series prints are snapshots of topographic maps that celebrate the beauty of contours and the natural landscape.

The island of St. Croix is the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, a stretch of Caribbean islands with a colorful history that for 200 years was referred to as the Danish West Indies. In 1916, Denmark sold the islands to the United States. St. Croix claims the rare occurrence of two bioluminescent bays, a phenomenon that is only known of in 14 places worldwide. The bays glow at night due to the high concentration of bioluminescnet dinoflagellates that emit light when disturbed.
